The Lofoten Islands are an archipelago lying inside the arctic circle offering a wide range of landscapes enhanced by the dazzling arctic light. The bleu of the water mirrors that of the sky and the red of the fishermen’s huts stands out against the deep green of the meadows. Nature is wild, the fjords ever present and the mountains are majestic. An ideal trip for those visiting the Lofoten Islands for the first time!
DAY BY DAY
Day 1: arrival Bodø airport and transfer by high-speed boat to Svolvaer in the north of the Lofoten Islands, then by minibus to Sørvågen where we spend the six next nights (or ferry from Bodø to Moskenes and transfer to Sørvågen).
Day 2: after a short transfer to Fredvang we set off on a nice hike that takes us to the remote and wild bay of Stokkvika. Go back via the peaks of Mulstotinden above the magnificent beach of Sandbotnen that is home to large numbers of seabirds. Then transfer back to Sørvågen.
Day 3: this day is spent hiking around the lake of Å i Lofoten. The village of Å lies at the southern tip of the road crossing the archipelago. We hike along the banks of a large lake surrounded by steep summits. The more athletic members of the group have the option of climbing to a pass from which there is a fine view of the lake and Vestfjord.
Day 4: transfer to Fredvang in the morning. Today we set off for the remote “Whale Beach” (Kvalvika in Norwegian) that is enclosed by black granite cliffs. Go back via a pass then alongside a series of beautiful small lakes. The track winds through grassy heathland and over small summits before returning to Sørvågen.
Day 5: After a short transfer to the hamlet of Nesland, we start this coastal hike that will lead us to the tiny port of Nusfjord. This village is a world heritage site, and even though it is a bit touristic, it has kept its charm.
Day 6: hike to the top of Munkan which lies at the foot of the highest summit on the island (Hermanndalstinden – 1029 m). A good hike through an alpine landscape. Go back via the peak with a magnificent view of the southern tip of the island, the most mountainous and inaccessible part of the Lofoten Islands.
Day 7: morning in Sorvagen and return journey to the mainland by ferry in the early afternoon. Night at Bodø in a city-centre hotel and unaccompanied evening.
Day 8: in the morning, transfer by minibus to Bodø airport and and return to France (or home country).
