PRESENTATION

Imagine the craggiest summits of the Alps rising out of the sea; now imagine that behind these bastions lie gentle meadows where sheep graze, fishing villages huddling in the smallest creek, fine sandy beaches and water that turns green or turquoise in the sun. You will now have an idea of the sights that await you in these islands. Ten varied hikes will enable you to discover this archipelago which lies more than 300 km inside the arctic circle...

DAY BY DAY

Day 1: arrival at Bodø and transfer by high-speed boat to Svolvær in the north of the Lofoten Islands (or to Moskenes) then transfer by bus to the small port of Stamsund. Settle in for three nights in a gite/traditional refuge in Stamsund.

Day 2: today we climb to the top of Justadtinden. A nice hike wich climbs gradually above the beautiful plain of Leknes.

Day 3: this day is spent on quite alpin hike (near our refuge) on which we follow a track along the ridges that offers beautiful views over Stamsund and the Vestfjord.

Day 4: after a short taxi transfer we begin a beautiful hike that will lead to the top of Guratinden. On the way we will cross one of the rare forests of Vestvågøya Island. The climb is progressive at the start, before the slope gets steeper all the way up to a pass from where the view over the Vestfjord is breathtaking. Access to the summit follows a beautiful ridgeline with a 360° view.

Day 5: in the morning, transfer to Ballstad, a fishing village. This day is spent hiking to the top of Nonstinden. At the summit we discover an alpine pasture (Ballstadheia). It’s one of the most beautiful panoramic views of our journey! We have a view over the entire archipelago of the Lofoten Islands. Picnic at the top, then head back along the coast in the afternoon. Transfer to the village of Fredvang on the island of Moskenesøya and settle in for two nights.

Day 6: In the morning, departure from our accommodation to the wild bay of Stokkvika where we will picnic. Return via the ridge above the magnificent beach of Sandbotnen.

Day 7: we head off for Whale Beach (Kvalvika). This place is impressive due to both its isolated setting and the black granite cliffs that surround it. It was inhabited until the 19th century by a family of fishermen. The recklessly daring might try a dip in the Norwegian sea, before picnic. Return via a pass then hike between a numbers of pretty small lakes. In the evening transfer to our accommodation in Sørvågen where we spend the next 5 nights.

Day 8: in the morning, transfer to the hamlet of Mølnarodden from where we head off on one of the nicest hikes of our stay to the solitary summit of Narvtinden at the top of which we will have a fantastic panorama on the island of Flakstadøya ! In the afternoon, transfer to Sørvågen.

Day 9: weather permitting, and provided the group is fit enough, we head off to the top of Tindstinden. This hike, which is rather short but mountainous, takes us to the summit overlooking the village of Å i Lofoten. A magnificent view over the neighboring valleys. White-tailed eagles nest near the summit… If the optimum conditions are not met, a replacement hike will be proposed.

Day 10: this day is spent on a good hike around the lake of Å i Lofoten. When we leave our gite we head off on a hike on the shores of a large lake surrounded by craggy peaks. The bravest of you might feel up to climbing a pass, which on a clear day, offers a beautiful view over the lake.

Day 11: hike to the summit of Munkan located at the foot of the highest summit on the island (Hermanndalstinden – 1029 m). An excellent hike in alpine terrain. Many lakes and waterfalls, the track is very high in places. Go back via the ridge with a view over the southern-most tip of the island which is also the most mountainous and inaccessible in the Lofoten Islands.

Day 12: in late morning, transfer to Moskenes and a ferry to Bodø where we settle in for a night in a hotel in the town center.

Day 13: in the morning, transfer to Bodø airport and return to France/Europe.
