> Detailed hiking guide of the tour

The arctic winter - with its crystal clear light, snow-capped peaks and northern lights – attracts professional photographers from all over the world but is still relativly unknown to a majority of travelers. Yet the archipelago is definitely worth a detour at this time of year. Indeed, it is in winter that the islands awaken from their calm torpor, with the start of the fishing season. From February onwards, the blue waters of the Vestfjord are covered with a constellation of small fishing boats. This trip in the middle of the fishing season, will allow you to observe the daily life of the villages in full activity! For a more complete immersion in these magnificent landscapes, you can also take part in all kinds of winter activities: sea kayaking, killer whale and sea eagle watching, snowshoeing or skiing ... It is from two comfortable lodgings (traditional rorbu), located in the north and the south of the archipelago, that you will set out to discover the islands and its particular Arctic atmosphere, with which few places in the world can compete.

Day 1: Arrival in Bodø and transfer with the coastal express boat (Hurtigruten) to the Lofotens. Pick up your rental car and drive to Svolvær, at the far north of the archipelago, where you will stay for two nights.

Day 2: Visit or/and take part in different activities on Austvågøya island. Today you can visit Svolvær and its surroundings (Kabelvåg, Henningsvær, Laukvik).
We provide several suggestions for optional activities (Road Book): kayaking, fishing, sea eagle safari, skiing, snowshoeing...

Days 3 and 4: Drive to the southern tip of the Lofoten Islands and settle into a comfortable rorbu located on Hamnøy island near Reine for two nights. Along the way you have the opportunity to visit the Viking Museum in Borg and stop to visit and photograph the many beaches and villages on your itinerary.
We provide several suggestions for optional activities: kayaking, skiing, sea fishing, zodiac tour to the Maelstrom ...

Day 5: Visit Flakstadøya island, one of the most beautiful of the archipelago (Ramberg, Nusfjord and Vikten). At the end of the day, drive to the village of Stamsund, return your rental car and board the coastal express boat (Hurtigruten) to reach Bodø (4 hours crossing). Late arrival in Bodø and check-in at a comfortable hotel.

Day 6: It is unfortunately the end of the journey. Our services end after a good breakfast at your hotel in Bodø.

Best time to go

The ideal time for a winter-trip to Lofoten runs from the end of February to the end of March.

- you can still enjoy northern lights (the nights are long enough)
- it's the "Skrei" fishing season; the main activity of the archipelago
- statistically the weather is better (more hours with sun, fewer storms)
- snow conditions are generally better than in January and April

Crossing on the mythical Hurtigruten (Coastal Express boat)
Witness the seasonal and traditional fishing activity in the harbours
The special atmosphere of the arctic winter in the Lofotens
The chance to observe northern lights
The many optional activities described in the Road Book
Two authentic and comfortable accommodation on the islands
A rental car that will give you great flexibility
